The Game

I had never been to a college game before.  I wasn't extremely excited until we arrived at the Tulsa University campus (after walking, like, a hundred blocks from our parking spot in some random neighborhood).  I've never really been the 'spirited' type ... but this game would be an exciting one.  Oklahoma State vs. Tulsa!  We were all wearing our orange and black git-ups.  Which, of course, we had picked up at Target on the way.  I wasn't about to be the only person there without team colors.

We knew it would rain, but we didn't care.  The air was divine.  Cool and crisp.. enough with the hot and dry.  This was perfect.  Tailgate-ers were scattered from one end of the yard to another.  Each with their own flat screen T.V..  After all, Oklahoma University was in the midst of playing Florida State.  Can't miss that one.  I should have brought a crimson shirt, too.

Everyone's televisions diverted to the all-mighty weather guy.  Severe weather... lightning.  Thunder.  Hail??  Geeze.  Amie and I looked at each other.  Should we take this party someplace else?  Heck no, these tickets were 90-somethin' buckaroos!  Onward... time to chug our beers and head to the stadium.

Holy moley!  These tickets were tha-bomb-diggity.  Endzone seats!  I started getting excited... "All stand for the National Anthem!".  The smooth saxophone resounded through the damp air.  Goosebumps.

 Fab seats.

About a minute after the Anthem...

Oh dang..

Uh oh... time to run.  Like, a hundred blocks to our car.  Remember?

The game eventually did happen.  After midnight.  But, you know.. it was for the best that we didn't drive.  Know what I mean?  Amie's folks know how to party!

And there goes my college game experience.

My Loves

"love life, engage in it, give it all you've got.  love it with a passion, because life truly does give back, many times over, what you put into it."

Maya Angelou

There is nothing about my life that I regret (and it has taken me a very long time to say this).  Everything I have been through.  What I have accomplished.  The love I've shared and the pain I've endured.  The mistakes I've made and the people I've hurt.  This is where all of it has led me.  A life where I have learned how to find peace.  And I have finally learned how to live it.  As Maya says.. life gives back what you put into it.  I have more to be thankful for than words can describe.

To my family.. my husband and my beautiful son.. my inspiration.  To my parents... who have taught me how to dream.  To my in-laws... who have taught me how to live with gusto.  To my friends.

This one's for you.
